Amazon's book search excerpt

It is a subject to user study what kind of excerpts can improve information need for book search. I looked at Amazon's recent implementation and it seems that they have implemented as web search snippets picking up only a few known important pages. I believe that the shopping snippets can be far better than the web search snippets and it can definitely improve value for the customers. Amazon's new UI for book search result looks quite ugly. However, it is possible that I am a biased observer because I am a frequent customer for books and possibly I know more information on the book before even searching for it.
